Hello Students and Families,
On May 20, 2024 the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WI DHS) released an official statement regarding updated immunization requirements for children attending child care centers and schools in the State of Wisconsin. A brief summary of the updated school immunization requirements are as follows:
Meningococcal Vaccines will now be required.
- 1 Meningococcal conjugate/MendACWY-containing vaccine required for entry to 7th GRADE and then a booster will be required again by 12th Grade
- For the upcoming year, as we transition through this requirement, students entering grades 8-11 in the 2024-2025 school year WILL NOT be required to have documentation of Meningococcal conjugate/MenACWY-containing vaccine until they reach 12th grade.
- Those 12th graders who received their first dose of a MenACWY containing vaccine at age 16 or older are not required by the school to have a booster- only the first MenACWY containing vaccine
Varicella Requirements:
- NEW STUDENTS ENROLLING FROM OUT OF STATE who state their child has had a case of Chickenpox/Varicella will be required to provide verification of the diagnosis by a qualified healthcare provider (M.D., D.O., N.P., or P.A.)
- Healthcare provider verification not previously required if families personally indicated history of the child having Chickenpox/Varicella
The Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine (HPV) is not required for school, but recommended.
To be compliant with the school law, parents must provide their child’s school with proof of immunization or sign a waiver for religious or personal conviction reasons. Please see the Immunization Information Link to see the Summary of changes for 2024/25 school year.
As always, if you have questions or would like me to look up your child’s immunization record, I am here to help. I ask that if possible, you get the needed vaccines (and submit proof to the school) over the summer, so we are all set in the fall.
Have a safe and healthy summer,
Nurse Foley
